Looking for our next volunteer Board Member
Since 1942, The Family Centre (TFC) has been providing support services to families and
children to help achieve our mission to promote healthy, safe, and economically viable
communities. The Family Centre has a strong reputation for providing quality services,
basing our work on research and evidence-based practices. We focus on trauma-
informed care for the children and families we support, as well as our employees.
The Family Centre strives to hire a diverse team, reflecting the diverse communities
we serve. We are committed to Indigenous ceremony and practice and welcome
knowledge of ceremony and lived experience.
Role Description
TFC’s Board of Directors is inviting applications from candidates interested in serving a
three-year term. This is a volunteer Board Member role involving strategic planning and
governance responsibilities using the Carver model.
The Board of Directors facilitates outcomes in a hybrid environment. Subcommittee
work is generally delivered in the virtual environment, and monthly meetings of the
Board preferably, although not exclusively, are held in person at The Family Centre
offices.
The Board has identified the following competency areas, experience, and characteristics
that would enhance the diversity of thought and expertise of our Board:
- Strategic planning and governance skills
- Community engagement and networking skills
- Experience working in the field of Children and Family Services or related fields
- Previous board or committee experience
- Concern about our community and families facing challenges in today’s world
Demographics requiring additional representation on the Board:
- Practicing or recently retired lawyer
- Newcomer to Canada
- Members of the Indigenous community
- Members of our ethnic communities
- Members of the helping professions who graduated from their program within
the last 10 years

criteria for capabilities, skills, or personal attributes.
