About Our Building Self-Esteem Class

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”

― Eleanor Roosevelt

Why is it important to build self-esteem?

Self-esteem is a critical factor in our happiness and well-being. With low self-esteem, we may compare ourselves to others, engage in negative self-talk, and lack self-worth or self-respect.

Building Self-Esteem class facilitator Michael Hansen recommends this workshop as a way to find “a direction on how to build [your] self-esteem, and start that journey upward.”

You can join this class as part of a group workshop or in a private session. The advantage of joining a group is that it can help you realize that everyone struggles and that these feelings are normal. You may find yourself in similar situations as your peers, such as being newly single after a toxic relationship. This class is a great first step for anyone looking to build resilience.

Additionally, you can attend this class online or in person at our office at 9912-106 Street, Edmonton.

The full-day workshop kicks off with some simple introductions and intention-setting. Michael makes a point to craft a safe space in the classroom. Whatever you share will not be judged or taken outside the context of the class. “Stories stay, lessons leave,” Michael says. You will never be forced to share or speak.

You will begin building skills and understanding:

  • Self-esteem and its characteristics, and ways to develop high self-esteem and self-confidence
  • The signs and causes of low self-esteem
  • The Thought, Feeling, Behaviour cycle and how self-talk can contribute to behavior changes
  • How our past experiences impact our brain and who we are
  • Ways to set healthy boundaries and practice self-care

The class will close out with a focus on taking care of yourself meaningfully. “After we talk through all the heavy stuff, we talk about self-care, and healing, and what that means to you,” Michael explains. He leads the group through some goal-setting exercises. You will have this valuable information on how your brain impacts your view of yourself. He’ll end the session by asking, what do you want to accomplish going forward?
